National College of Pharmacy, established in 1996, is a premier in the higher education institution in Kerala. The college is situated at Manassery, Kozhikode district, and is the meeting place of the three districts, namely Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Mr. C. A. Abdul Salam was the first Principal of this college, and later, Mr. Mujeeb Rahman took his place as the Head of the Institute.

The college was upgraded to a degree-level institution in 2002 with a BPharm intake of 60 and flourished into a full-fledged college with social responsibility and commitment to society. Prof. R. Raju, a retired Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum, took the position of Principal, and now Dr. Sujith Varma has taken over the role.

The postgraduate and professioal doctoral programs in Pharmacy, namely MPharm and PharmD, were introduced in the year 2010. The college is a minority self-financing institute managed under the KMCT Trust. We have a history and heritage that we endeavor to preserve, serving as an inspiration and guide for our future. National College of Pharmacy is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences, approved by PCI and AICTE, and accredited with  A grade in NAAC. The college offers a wide range of programs to learners with 100 undergraduate (BPharm) seats, 30 seats for PharmD, 10 seats for PharmD Post Baccalaureate, 60 seats for Diploma in Pharmacy (DPharm), and four specializations in the postgraduate program in Pharmacy (MPharm – Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis & Pharmacy Practice).

The college is situated on a sprawling 20-acre campus in Shivamogga. The infrastructure includes a spacious Central Library with over 14,000 books and a subscription to more than 5,000 e-journals through the HELINET Consortium. The campus also has well-equipped laboratories, an air-conditioned seminar hall, a canteen, and a multi-gym. The college maintains a medicinal garden with various herbal plants and an animal house for experimental purposes. A girls’ hostel is available near the college.

NCP offers a variety of diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs in pharmaceutical sciences. The college’s mission is to train pharmacists who can serve the community and improve the healthcare system.

The courses offered are:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm): A 2-year diploma program with an intake of 60 seats.
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm): A 4-year undergraduate program with an intake of 100 seats. Students must undergo a compulsory industrial training of not less than 150 hours after the fourth year.
  • Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm): A 2-year postgraduate program with specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmaceutical Analysis. The approved intake for each specialization is 18 seats.
  • Ph.D. in Pharmacy: A 3-year doctoral program.

The college provides scholarships to eligible students, including the Vidyasiri scholarship. However, some student reviews indicate that while scholarships are available, there may be some unnecessary restrictions. One review mentions an average scholarship sum of ₹8,000.

Admissions at NCP are based on a transparent, merit-based process and entrance exam scores.

  • B.Pharm: Admission is based on the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). Merit is determined by the highest marks in Physics, Chemistry, and either Biology or Mathematics in the CET.
  • D.Pharm: The college accepts scores from the CBSE 12th and Karnataka 2nd PUC exams.
  • M.Pharm: Candidates must have a B.Pharm degree from a PCI-recognized institution. The college may also consider a valid score from the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT).
  • Eligibility: For B.Pharm, candidates must have passed the 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and either Biology or Mathematics with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST, Category-I, and OBC candidates).

The college promotes a balanced student life with various clubs and societies. It has a Sports Club that organizes indoor and outdoor sports activities and a Arts Club that provides a platform for students to explore their artistic talents. The college also has a “Happiness and Wellness Department” with compassionate psychologists to support students’ mental well-being.

NCP has a dedicated Placement Cell that provides career support and helps students transition from campus to the workplace. The cell organizes mock interviews, CV building sessions, and on-campus recruitment drives. In 2023, the highest package was ₹8.2 LPA, and the average was ₹4.1 LPA. The college placed 77 out of 98 students, with top recruiters including Biocon, Abbott, and GlaxoSmithKline.
