Soniya Education Trust’s College of Pharmacy, Dharwad was established in the year 1992 by a visionary Dr. H. V Dambal, an eminent educationist, philanthropist and social worker in a picturesque campus of 5 acres at Sangolli Rayanna Nagar. The city is well connected by air, rail and road to various parts of the country and is considered as an educational hub of North Karnataka.

The institute offers various courses in Pharmacy such as

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm) started 1992 with an intake of 60 students.
  • Bachelor in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) started in 1992 having an intake of 100 students.
  • Master in Pharmacy (M. Pharm) program with all four core branches.

– M. Pharm in Pharmacology started in 2007 with an intake of 15 students.
– M. Pharm in Pharmacognosy started in 2009 with an intake of 10 students.
– M. Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry started in 2009 with an intake of 10 students.
– M. Pharm in Pharmaceutics started in 2010 with an intake of 15 students.

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) started in 2016 in association with Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hubli with an intake of 30 students.
  • Ph. D programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The College is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) New Delhi, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore and the Board of Examination Authority, Drugs Control Department, Govt. of Karnataka, Bangalore.

The institute has created all the facilities with an aim to impart exceptional pharmaceutical education and develop proficient pharmacists. The infrastructure includes well equipped laboratories for undergraduate and postgraduate students including research lab, library, animal house and seminar hall. The institute also provides in campus hostel, transportation and good sports facilities. The students are trained not only for curriculum related topics but are also exposed to soft skills, communication skills and personality developmental trainings. Further, various training sessions, guest lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, sports events, cultural activities etc. are organized regularly for the all-round development of every student.

The college has highly trained, experienced and distinguished faculty. Several research funds have been secured by the faculty members from various funding agencies both from state and central governments. They also have international / national research publications in high impact factor scientific journals to their credit along with many Patents. The excellence of the institution is marked by the outstanding alumni working in the field of drug manufacturing, research and development, formulation and development, clinical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and retail pharmacy in India and abroad.

The college has a well-maintained campus with various facilities.   • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D): A 6-year professional doctorate with 30 seats.
  • Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate): A 3-year program with 30 seats.
  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science: A doctoral-level research program.

The tuition fees are collected as per state government norms. A different source cites a total tuition fee of ₹1.07 Lakhs for the B.Pharm program.

The college assists students in obtaining scholarships from both the state and central governments, which are available for students from OBC, SC/ST, Minority, and Economically Backward Classes. The institution also provides cash prizes to students who achieve the highest scores in their university semester exams to encourage academic excellence.

Admissions are transparent and merit-based.

  • B.Pharm and Pharm.D: Admission for government quota seats is based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Merit is determined based on a candidate’s performance in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) or Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), whichever marks are highest, in the CET.
  • Eligibility: For B.Pharm and Pharm.D, a candidate must have passed the 2nd PUC/12th standard with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects, and either Biology or Mathematics. A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in these subjects is required, with 40% for SC/ST and Category-I candidates from Karnataka.
  • M.Pharm: A candidate must have a B.Pharm degree from a PCI/AICTE-recognized university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST and Category-I).

The college provides a balanced campus life with facilities like a cafeteria and medical services. Extracurricular activities are encouraged.

SETCP has a dedicated Placement and Career Guidance Cell to help students with their professional development. The cell organizes career guidance workshops, networking events, and campus recruitment drives with pharmaceutical companies and hospitals. In the academic year 2023, the college achieved a placement rate of 37%. The median salary for B.Pharm graduates was ₹3.5 LPA. Final-year B.Pharm and D.Pharm students undergo hands-on training at medical shops and industries as part of PCI guidelines. Some of the companies where alumni have been placed include Shilpa Medicare, Cipla, and Nemus Pharmaceuticals.
