The trust started College of Pharmacy in the year 1987 with a vision to promote excellence in the profession of pharmacy in the name of their beloved leader as a token of respect and honour to late Sr. Dr. H.L. Thimmegowda, Ex-Minister of Health and family welfare, Govt. of Karnataka.

The Objective of the trust is to provide the best infrastructure facilities and to have the facility raised to a level comparable to any major pharmacy institution in advanced countries. With this goal in mind, the trust, in close co-operation and guidance from professional experts in administration and teaching, developed from Diploma to P.G. level in this sprawling 40 acres green campus.

Dr. H.L. Thimmegowda College of Pharmacy aims to deliver pharmacy programme beyond the limits of academic curriculum by providing all-round education to the future pharmacists to meet the global challenges. The institute is second to none in facilities as it has modern facilities on campus and faculty rich in talent and experience.

At present the institution is imparting D. Pharm B. Pharm, M. Pharm programmes successfully. All these Programmes are approved by PCI NewDelhi (Pharmacy Council of India), AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) New Delhi, RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) Bangalore.

The college is located on a large, eco-friendly 40-acre campus in Kengal, Channapatna.

  • Laboratories: The college has a separate building for pharmacy with well-equipped labs, a machine room, and a museum, all designed to meet PCI, AICTE, and RGUHS norms.
  • Library: The college library has sufficient volumes of books, periodicals, and journals, as well as a networked computer with internet access and a CD bank.
  • Hostels: Separate hostels are provided for both boys and girls with double and triple-bedded accommodations. The mess offers both South and North Indian food.

DHLTCP offers a range of diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses designed to train and bring out the best in future pharmacists. The college has highly qualified and experienced faculty members, with many holding PhDs or M.Pharms.

The courses offered are:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm): A 2-year diploma program with an intake of 60 students.
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm): A 4-year undergraduate program with an intake of 60 students.
  • Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm): A 2-year postgraduate program with specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmacy Practice.

The college provides free education to state rank holders in diploma and degree programs from the trust. A student review mentions that the college provides scholarships, and those who get a good rank in the state entrance exam can get a fee reimbursement of up to ₹72,000 per year. A GPAT-qualified student can also get a stipend of ₹12,000 per month for 2 years.

Admissions at DHLTCP are merit-based, with some programs requiring an entrance test. The application form can be downloaded from the college website.

  • B.Pharm: Admission is based on a valid score in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). Candidates must have passed the 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and either Biology or Mathematics, with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved categories).
  • D.Pharm: A pass in 10+2 with science subjects is required.
  • M.Pharm: Candidates must have a B.Pharm degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and may need to qualify for the PGCET or GPAT.

The college provides a good academic atmosphere and a range of sporting and non-sporting co-curricular activities. It also offers a “worthwhile boarding experience” and is focused on extracurriculars that help students develop leadership skills.
